The USS Hornet is a historic aircraft carrier, now a museum ship. Launched in 1943, she served in intense WWII Pacific battles, including the "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot." Later, she recovered Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronauts (Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins, Gordon, Conrad, Bean) after their moon missions. The two small dots in the sky are often helicopters for sightseeing tours or for the Alameda Naval Air Museum. Beyond the ship, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge connects San Francisco to Oakland and Alameda, comprising two distinct suspension bridges.
