USS Hornet & Bay Bridge fro...

The large ship is the USS Hornet (CV-12), a retired Essex-class aircraft carrier. It's now a museum ship in Alameda, California. Commissioned in 1943, it played key roles in World War II, including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Later, it recovered the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronaut crews and their command modules after splashdown. A National Historic Landmark, it has been docked here since 1998. The structure in the background is the Bay Bridge, connecting San Francisco and Oakland.
